The Minister of Territorial Administration and President of the National Hajj Commission, Atanga Nji, today October 10th opened the 34th National Hajj Commission to set modalities for the 2024 pilgrimage to Mecca. In attendance were delegates of the commission including Mohamadou Moustapha, Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic and Iya Tidjani, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The Minister, began by appraising the work done by the Commission in the organisation of the pilgrimage in 2023, stating that 5373 persons travelled, made up of 3165 from the National Hajj Commission and 2208 private operators. He saluted the commission for diligence which yielded good results as the pilgrims were disciplined in respecting arrival and departure time with no nuances recorded. Minister Atanga Nji added that, the pilgrims sent thank you messages to President Biya for his outstanding support to them in the just ended pilgrimage, and will continue to pray for peace and stability in the country. Opening the 34th commission, MINAT said the essence is to set to work and effectively prepare for hajj 2024 that begins early by surmounting challenges in order to ensure a smooth pilgrimage.
